Your Path from AST Owl to Colorado Driver
Colorado uses a Graduated Driver Licensing system. Here’s the step-by-step process — and where American Driving Academy fits in.
Age 14 ½ — Begin the 30-Hour Course
Start Colorado’s required drivers education course. Take it online at home ($29.85) or in-person at our Montbello classroom ($150).
Pass the Permit Knowledge Test
After finishing the course, take the permit test at our office. ADA is an authorized testing site — no DMV visit needed.
Age 15 — Get Your Instruction Permit
Head to the DMV with a parent or guardian and your test results to receive your Colorado instruction permit.
Start Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
Permit in hand, begin lessons with a certified ADA instructor. Students under 16 ½ need at least 6 professional hours.
Hold Your Permit 12 Months
Colorado requires a minimum 12-month permit hold (if under 18) before the license test. Use the year to log real-world practice miles.
Take the License Road Test — $85
Road test with us: about 20 minutes, no parallel parking or highway. Pass and leave with your Colorado driver’s license.
