Your Path from Cole Dragon to Colorado Driver
Colorado uses a Graduated Driver Licensing system. Here’s the six-step path — and where American Driving Academy fits in.
Age 14 ½ — Start the 30-Hour Course
Begin Colorado’s required drivers education course. Take it online at home ($29.85) or in-person at our Capitol Hill classroom ($150).
Pass the Permit Knowledge Test
After finishing the course, sit the permit test at our office. ADA is an authorized testing site — skip the DMV.
Age 15 — Get Your Permit
Head to the DMV with a parent or guardian and your test results to receive your Colorado instruction permit.
Start Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
With your permit, begin lessons with a certified ADA instructor. Students under 16 ½ need 6 professional hours minimum.
Hold the Permit 12 Months
Colorado requires a 12-month permit hold (if under 18) before the license test. Stack practice miles with a parent.
Pass the License Road Test — $85
Road test with us: about 20 minutes, no parallel parking, no highway. Pass and leave with your Colorado license.
