Your Path from Hornet to Colorado Driver
Colorado uses a Graduated Driver Licensing system. Here’s the six-step path.
Age 14 ½ — Begin the 30-Hour Course
Start Colorado’s required drivers education course. Online at home ($29.85) or in-person at Montbello ($150).
Pass the Permit Knowledge Test
Take the permit test at our office. ADA is an authorized testing site — no DMV trip needed.
Age 15 — Get Your Permit
Visit the DMV with a parent or guardian and your test results to receive your Colorado instruction permit.
Start Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
With your permit, begin lessons with a certified ADA instructor. Students under 16 ½ need 6 professional hours minimum.
Hold the Permit 12 Months
Colorado requires a 12-month permit hold (if under 18). Use the year to stack up practice miles with a parent.
Pass the License Road Test — $85
Road test with us: about 20 minutes, no parallel parking, no highway. Leave with your Colorado license.
