Your Path from Bulldog to Colorado Licensed Driver
Colorado uses a Graduated Driver Licensing system — here’s how every step lines up, and where American Driving Academy shows up along the way.
Age 14 ½ — Start the 30-Hour Course
Begin Colorado’s required 30-hour drivers education course. Take it online from home ($29.85) or in person at our Montbello classroom ($150).
Pass the Permit Knowledge Test
After finishing the 30-hour course, sit the permit test with us. We’re an authorized testing site — no DMV trip required.
Age 15 — Pick Up Your Instruction Permit
Head to the DMV with a parent or guardian and your test results to receive your Colorado instruction permit.
Start Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
With your permit in hand, begin lessons with a certified ADA instructor. Students under 16 ½ need a minimum of 6 professional hours.
Log a Year on Your Permit
Colorado requires a 12-month permit hold (if under 18) before the license test. Use that year to rack up practice miles with a parent.
Pass the Driver’s License Test — $85
Take the road test with us — about 20 minutes on familiar streets, no parallel parking, no highway. Pass and walk out a licensed Colorado driver.
