Our proven online course is built around licensing requirements, roads across the state, and the decisions new drivers face. Students receive local, in-depth driver education created and taught by Colorado professionals, not national test-prep thrown together.
Safe driving takes a community. We are one of only two AAA Approved driving schools in Colorado, partner with MADD statewide, and work with area high schools including Smoky Hill High School and Cherokee Trail High School.
More than 10 of the 30 hours feature Colorado instructors teaching on screen. Interactive learning, readings, quizzes, practice tests, and 100+ videos reinforce the instruction and help teens understand the reasoning behind a safe choice.

Inside the Course
Safe driving depends on four connected skills: identify what is happening, predict what could happen next, decide on the safest response, and execute that decision. The online course develops the first three before formal lessons, giving teens a stronger base for applying the full sequence behind the wheel.
A drive can shift quickly from a neighborhood street or school zone to East Colfax, I-225, or faster traffic near E-470. The course teaches teens to keep scanning, protect space, and adjust their decisions as the road changes, skills they can use wherever they drive.
30 Hours, 15 Lessons
The 15 connected lessons are designed for new Colorado drivers. Together, they cover road rules and the safety concepts teens should understand before getting behind the wheel.

Behind the Wheel
The $510, $599, and $840 packages each include three 2-hour behind-the-wheel lessons, for six hours of professional instruction. Every lesson takes place in a dual-controlled, state-inspected vehicle with a patient and friendly state-certified instructor.
Instruction is tailored to your teen's current skill level, not a fixed route or one-size-fits-all plan. The first session starts with the fundamentals: vehicle setup, steering, braking, turns, lane position, scanning, and intersections. From there, students progress to lane changes, parallel parking, multi-lane roads, freeway entry and exit, and downtown driving around pedestrians, cyclists, and buses.
Students are challenged at the right pace, and parents receive useful feedback on what their teen handles well and where more supervised practice is needed. For students licensing before age 16½, the included six hours also satisfy Colorado's professional driving instruction requirement.
The Final Step
Colorado State Driver License offices do not administer the driving skills test. American Driving Academy is a state-approved third-party testing center, and we offer Colorado drive tests seven days a week with state-certified examiners.
The exam is included in the $599 and $840 packages, with appointments at either the Aurora or Smoky Hill office. Choosing the $599 option locks in the road exam upfront instead of buying it separately later, and your teen takes it only after meeting the state's permit-holding, supervised-practice, and training requirements.
After passing the test, eligible students can usually upgrade their permit to a license online without another DMV appointment. The state mails the physical credential to you.
After the License
Passing the road test confirms that a teen can demonstrate the skills required for a license. It cannot safely recreate a skid, a sudden hazard, or the split-second judgment needed during an emergency stop. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, new teen drivers are 50% more likely to crash in their first month of independent driving than after a full year of experience. Driver Skills Day keeps the learning going after licensure, when teens begin driving without an instructor beside them.
The $840 package includes a 3.5-hour, post-license session in a controlled setting. Teens practice emergency braking, skid recovery, hazard response, and vehicle control, building reactions that are difficult to develop during ordinary driving lessons.
Students feel how a vehicle responds when traction changes, traffic stops suddenly, or an obstacle appears. They also learn basic vehicle maintenance such as changing a tire, reading dashboard warnings, and simple checks.

Driver Skills Day takes place after licensure on scheduled dates in large parking-lot environments around the Denver metro area, not at the Aurora or Smoky Hill offices, and remains subject to availability, weather, safety, staffing, equipment, location, and program policies.
Behind Every Package
Finishing the course does not end the support available to your family. Students can revisit course material, parents can request a lesson review, and eligible graduates may qualify for insurance or AAA benefits.
Your teen may retake or review the 30-hour course free for life, subject to course, technology, platform, and program availability. They can return to the course before permit testing, during the year of supervised practice, and even after they start driving on their own. Students may also book time with an instructor to ask about a road situation or skill.
Every vehicle used for behind-the-wheel lessons has a dash camera. Tell us within 7 days of a concern, while the footage is still available, and we will review it and follow up. The Lesson Review Promise reflects our commitment to accountability; it does not guarantee a license, test result, refund, free lesson, instructor change, schedule change, or any other outcome.
Some insurers offer driver discounts after an approved course, professional lessons, or another recognized safety program. Requirements and savings vary by carrier and policy, so families should ask their insurer what is needed before expecting a discount.
Eligible teens who complete one of our courses may receive a free AAA membership when they are dependents of an active AAA Primary Member in Colorado. Full restrictions appear later on this page and on our AAA information page.
Beginning January 1, 2027, HB24-1021 changes what new drivers must complete before receiving a first permit. Applicants ages 15 through 17 will need a 30-hour driver education course, while ages 18 through 20 may complete either that course or a 4-hour driver awareness program.
The State-approved online course offered here already meets the new 30-hour requirement.
Professional training is a separate requirement. Students who plan to receive a license before 16½ will still need six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction from an approved driving school.

A teen who completes an American Driving Academy course may qualify for a free AAA membership when they are a dependent of an active AAA Primary Member living in Colorado, and the teen membership expires on the Primary member's renewal date. The coursework is self-paced, with local staff available to help.

If you are new to Colorado or you don’t have driving experience, we offer driving lessons 7 days a week. These are 2-hour lessons with state-certified, patient, and friendly instructors.
You are required to pass the driver's license test in order to get your driver's license. After passing, you may be eligible to get your license that same day without even having to visit the DMV.
