Denver behind-the-wheel driving lessons are taught at four city offices by patient, state-certified instructors. Teen driving lessons and adult driving lessons are two hours and cost $160. Family-owned since 1999, we teach safe habits and sound decisions that matter long after the drive test. Every instructor is carefully vetted and receives ongoing training beyond state requirements. Each private driving lesson follows a clear plan, every car has a dash camera for our Lesson Review Promise, and the Lesson Progress Tracker gives families a specific goal for the next drive.

Find the Right Lesson
Most Colorado teens planning to earn a license before 16½ need six professional hours during the permit year. Denver students complete them in three private 2-hour lessons with a state-certified instructor. After the final appointment, American Driving Academy records the training in the DMV system, provides the DMV completion certificate, and gives the family a separate certificate for insurance records.
Adults come with different driving histories. Some have never driven, some are new to Colorado, and others are returning after time away. The appointment focuses on the skills that matter most.

Lesson one: make basic control reliable
Begin in an open area, then use neighborhood streets when steering, braking, speed control, and scanning are steady.
Lesson two: add parking, lanes, and freeway entry
Add parallel parking, multi-lane traffic, and I-25 or I-70 entry and exit once the earlier skills are consistent.
Lesson three: manage dense city traffic
Later practice may include one-way streets, pedestrians, buses, bike lanes, and frequent lane decisions downtown.
Six hours do not mean every driver completes every item. The instructor may continue earlier work before adding freeways or dense city traffic. Colorado requires the training time, not this entire outline. For every Colorado teen licensing before 16½, three 2-hour lessons meet the requirement, and American Driving Academy provides the DMV and insurance certificates.
Schedule a LessonStudents use a vehicle approved for professional instruction and maintained routinely. The passenger-side brake and instructor mirror let the instructor respond when needed while the student keeps practicing.
State certification is what the law requires. American Driving Academy trains its instructors well past that: explaining a skill so it makes sense, keeping a lesson calm and safe, and judging when a student is ready for denser traffic or higher speeds.

Before teaching, every instructor is fingerprinted. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation checks the prints against the FBI's national database, and American Driving Academy repeats the screening each year for active instructors.
After the appointment, the instructor explains what the student handled well, what still needs work, and what to practice at home. Those notes are saved in the Lesson Progress Tracker, giving families a record and a useful goal for the next home drive.
After three 2-hour lessons, American Driving Academy enters all six hours in the DMV system and provides the DMV completion certificate. The family also receives a separate certificate for insurance records.
The insurance certificate does not guarantee savings. The carrier decides eligibility, paperwork, and any change to the policy.
Dash cameras record every lesson. If a student or parent raises a concern, American Driving Academy may review footage that remains available, speak with the instructor, and respond directly. Report the concern within 7 days because recordings may be overwritten. This gives families a practical way to hold us accountable for the quality of behind-the-wheel training.

If you are new to Colorado or you don’t have driving experience, we offer driving lessons 7 days a week. These are 2-hour lessons with state-certified, patient, and friendly instructors.
You are required to pass the driver's license test in order to get your driver's license. After passing, you may be eligible to get your license that same day without even having to visit the DMV.
