We offer both in-person and online driver’s ed courses for teens across Colorado. With 15 locations statewide, students can choose classroom driver’s education near them or complete online driver’s ed from anywhere in Colorado. Students can start at 14½, get their permit at 15, and work toward earning their driver’s license at 16.
American Driving Academy’s behind-the-wheel lessons help teens and adults gain confidence, improve skills, and become safer drivers. Learn with one of our state-approved, patient, friendly instructors. Each two-hour lesson uses a dual-controlled car, and our certified driving instructors provide clear feedback to help you improve.

Some restrictions apply. Free membership is only for teens who have completed an American Driving Academy course and are dependents of active AAA Primary Members residing in Colorado.

Once you have your permit, you can begin practicing driving and completing behind-the-wheel training before taking your Colorado drive test.
Driver’s education requirements in Colorado depend on your age. Teens who are 15 years old must complete a state-approved driver’s education course in addition to passing the written permit test to receive their permit.
Teens between 16½ and 18 years old are not required to take driver’s education. However, they must hold their permit for the required time and complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving with a parent or guardian.
Adults 18 and older are not required by law to complete driver’s education, but many choose to enroll in a professional driving school to build confidence, improve skills, and prepare for the drive test.

Timing your completion of driver’s education also depends on your age and specific goals. A teen driver may take over 12 months to finish everything — not only because they might need to take our class and driving lessons, but also because they are required to hold onto their permit for 1 full year.

If you are new to Colorado or you don’t have driving experience, we offer driving lessons 7 days a week. These are 2-hour lessons with state-certified, patient, and friendly instructors.
You are required to pass the driver's license test in order to get your driver's license. After passing, you may be eligible to get your license that same day without even having to visit the DMV.
If under the age of 16, you need to first complete a driver's ed course. In-person and online options are available.
