American Driving Academy respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect when you use americandrivingacademy.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have written it in plain language rather than legal shorthand, because most of the people reading it are parents trying to understand what happens to their teenager's information.

Who we are

American Driving Academy is a family owned driving school that has operated in Colorado since 1999. We provide classroom driver education, behind the wheel driving lessons, drive testing, and defensive driving courses across 15 locations statewide. Our mailing address and contact details are at the bottom of this page.

Information we collect

Information you give us

You can browse our website without telling us who you are. We collect personal information when you choose to give it, which is usually when you register a student, book a class, lesson, or drive test, request information, subscribe to email updates, complete a survey or form, or contact us.

Depending on what you are doing, that information may include:

• Student and parent or guardian names
• Email address and phone number
• Mailing address
• Student date of birth, which we need to confirm eligibility under Colorado driver licensing rules
• Colorado permit or license details where a course or drive test requires them
• Scheduling details, course history, and instructor notes about lesson progress
• Payment information, which is collected and processed by our payment provider rather than stored on our servers

Any field that is not required will be marked optional.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we and our service providers collect some information automatically when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the pages you view, the links you click, how you arrived at our site, and the approximate region you are in. Some of these tools also record how you move through a page. The next section explains that in detail.

Cookies and tracking technologies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them, and similar technologies such as pixels and browser storage, to keep the site working, to understand how it is used, and to measure our advertising. Below is the full list of services active on this site and what each one does. We have listed them by name rather than describing them generically, so you can look any of them up.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. If you block cookies, parts of the site such as booking and account features may stop working correctly.

You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on, and you can adjust Google's ad personalization in your Google account settings. Microsoft offers similar controls for Clarity and Microsoft Advertising.

How we use your information

• To register students and deliver the classes, lessons, and drive tests you book
• To confirm eligibility under Colorado driver licensing requirements
• To process payments and issue receipts and certificates
• To contact you about a booking, a schedule change, or a request you made
• To provide customer support
• To send occasional company news, promotions, and course information, which you can unsubscribe from at any time
• To improve our website, our courses, and our instruction
• To measure and improve our advertising
• To meet our legal and regulatory obligations as a State approved driving school

Students under 18

Most of our students are minors. Colorado allows driver education to begin at 14 years and 6 months, so a typical student is between 14 and 17 years old.

Accounts are created by a parent or legal guardian. When you register a student, you confirm that you are that student's parent or legal guardian and that you consent on their behalf to the collection and use of their information as described in this policy. We collect only what we need to enroll a student, confirm eligibility, deliver instruction, and meet state requirements.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our courses and services are not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us using the details below and we will delete it.

A parent or legal guardian may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their student's information at any time by contacting us.

Advertising and profiling

Colorado law sets specific rules for the personal data of people under 18. Because we teach teenagers, we treat our students as minors by default rather than waiting to be told, and we hold ourselves to the following:

• We do not sell personal data.
• Advertising. We promote our courses through Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising. Those services receive information about visits to this site. They use it to measure which advertising leads to enrollments, and they may also use it to show our ads again to people who have visited us before. If you are a parent or legal guardian and you do not want your student's activity used this way, contact us and we will act on it.
• We do not use automated profiling to make decisions about a student that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Decisions about a student's readiness are made by a certified instructor.
• We do not collect precise geolocation from students through this website.
• We do not use design features intended to increase or extend the time a student spends on this website.
• We keep student data only as long as we need it to deliver the course, issue certificates, and meet the record keeping rules that apply to a State approved driving school.

If you are a parent or legal guardian and you would like us to stop processing your student's data for advertising measurement, or you want to know what we hold, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page and we will take care of it.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade it. We share it only in these situations:

• Service providers. Companies that help us operate, including BookingTimes, which runs our scheduling and booking platform, our payment gateway, our email provider, and our website hosting. They may use your information only to perform work for us.
• Advertising and analytics partners. The providers listed in the table above receive information about your visit. Some of them use that information to build advertising audiences. Depending on where you live, this activity may be treated as sharing or as a sale of personal information under your state's privacy law, even though no money changes hands for your data. We have described it plainly here so you can decide for yourself.
• Legal reasons. When we are required to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of our students, staff, or others.
• Business transfers. If our business is sold or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction.

Phone calls

We record incoming and outgoing calls. We use recordings to confirm what was booked and agreed, to answer questions later about a schedule or a payment, and to train and support our staff. Calls are often with a parent or guardian, and sometimes with a student.

If you would prefer a call not be recorded, tell the person you are speaking with at the start of the call and we will accommodate it. You can also reach us by email instead, using the address at the bottom of this page.

Recordings are kept only as long as we have a business reason for them and are not shared outside the company except where we are required to by law.

How we protect your information

We use a range of safeguards to keep personal information secure, including encrypted connections across our site, access controls on the systems that hold student records, and password protection on our databases. Payment card details are transmitted directly to our payment provider over an encrypted connection and are not stored on our servers after a transaction is complete.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take the protection of student and family information seriously.

How long we keep information

Colorado requires a certified driving school to store student records securely for three years. Those records include enrollment contracts, attendance records, drive time logs, written examination and driving skill test results, progress reports, and test completion slips.

Our retention is as follows:

• Physical state records are kept for three years and then destroyed, in line with that requirement.
• Digital records in our scheduling system are deleted after four years. We hold them for that period so we can reissue a completion certificate, answer a question about a course a student took, and pick up where a student left off if they come back to us later.

You can ask us to delete information sooner than this. Where we are not required to keep it, we will. A parent or legal guardian may make that request on a student's behalf.

Your privacy choices and rights

You can:

• Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message we send
• Ask us what personal information we hold about you or your student
• Ask us to correct information that is wrong
• Ask us to delete information, where we are not required to keep it
• Ask us to stop using your information for targeted advertising

Colorado residents have rights under the Colorado Privacy Act, and residents of other states may have similar rights under their own laws. To make a request, email admin@americandrivingacademy.com or call the office nearest you. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, and a parent or legal guardian may make a request on behalf of their student.

Photos and video

From time to time, photos or videos may be taken during classes, lessons, or testing for use in American Driving Academy's marketing or promotional materials. Students are notified before any filming, and those who prefer not to participate are given the opportunity to opt out. This is covered by the consent that both the parent or guardian and the student sign on our intake form.

The opt out offered before filming is the point at which participation is decided. If you want to withdraw permission after that, contact us. We will not use the image or footage in new materials, and we will remove it from our website and our own social media accounts where we are able to. Materials that have already been printed, produced, or distributed, and campaigns already running, cannot always be changed or recalled. A parent or legal guardian may make a request on a student's behalf.

If you post a public review of us on Google or Trustpilot, the display name and profile photo shown with it are published by that platform under its own terms, not by us.

Booking and scheduling

When you book a class, lesson, or drive test, you move to a scheduling platform operated for us by BookingTimes. It carries our name and branding, but it is a separate system with its own privacy policy, and the information you enter there, including payment details, is collected on that platform. Card details are handled by a PCI compliant payment gateway over an encrypted connection.

Links to other websites

Our site links to other websites, including the BookingTimes scheduling platform and our review pages on Google and Trustpilot. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or their practices. We encourage you to read the policy of any site you visit.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will post the updated version on this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Changes apply to information collected after the date of the change.
