Take behind-the-wheel driving lessons in Longmont with patient, state-certified instructors. We offer teen driving lessons and adult driving lessons. Each two-hour lesson is $160. Family-owned since 1999, we teach safe habits and good judgment meant to last long after the drive test. Our training and safety practices go beyond state standards, and every instructor is vetted and receives ongoing training. Choose Your Driving Lesson
Most Colorado teens who want a license before 16½ need six hours of professional instruction from an approved driving school during their permit year. We split those hours into three private 2-hour lessons with a state-certified instructor. After the third lesson, we report the training to the DMV and provide a DMV completion certificate plus a separate American Driving Academy certificate for insurance records.
About one in three lessons is booked by an adult. Some are learning for the first time, some recently moved to Colorado, and others are returning after years away. You will not be the only adult starting over or brushing up.

Students learn at different speeds and may not reach every skill in six hours. That is okay. Colorado counts training time, not the number of items completed. Three 2-hour lessons fulfill the requirement for every Colorado teen licensing before 16½, and the student still receives the DMV and insurance certificates.
Schedule a LessonOur Longmont training cars meet Colorado requirements for driver instruction and follow a routine maintenance schedule. The instructor has a passenger-side brake and mirror and can step in when needed.
Every lesson is led by a state-certified instructor who receives training beyond Colorado's certification requirements. Skills are explained plainly, and harder traffic is introduced only when the driver is ready.
Many of our instructors came from education, law enforcement, or professional driving. We hire people who stay patient, explain skills clearly, and make sound decisions when traffic gets busy.
Before hiring an instructor, American Driving Academy submits the instructor's fingerprints through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for a check against the FBI's national database. Current instructors are fingerprinted again every year.
Before the student leaves, the instructor explains what improved, what still needs work, and what to practice with a parent or other supervising driver. The instructor saves those notes in the Lesson Progress Tracker after every appointment, so the family knows what to work on next and can follow progress from one lesson to the next.
When all six hours are finished, American Driving Academy records the training in the DMV system and gives the student a DMV completion certificate plus a separate certificate for insurance records.
Insurance discounts are not automatic. Each company sets its own eligibility, discount amount, and paperwork requirements.
Dash cameras run in every lesson car. If a student or parent raises a concern, American Driving Academy can review the footage with the instructor and respond directly. Contact us within 7 days so we can check whether the recording is still available. This gives families a way to hold us accountable for the quality of behind-the-wheel training.

If you are new to Colorado or you don’t have driving experience, we offer driving lessons 7 days a week. These are 2-hour lessons with state-certified, patient, and friendly instructors.
You are required to pass the driver's license test in order to get your driver's license. After passing, you may be eligible to get your license that same day without even having to visit the DMV.
