Fort Collins behind-the-wheel driving lessons are taught by patient, state-certified instructors. Our teen driving lessons and adult driving lessons cost $160 for each two-hour session. Family-owned since 1999, we teach safe habits and good judgment that matter long after the drive test. Every instructor is vetted and receives ongoing training beyond state requirements. Colorado generally requires six professional hours during the permit year for a teen who plans to earn a license before 16½. Fort Collins students complete them in three private 2-hour lessons with a state-certified instructor. After the last appointment, American Driving Academy records the training in the DMV system and provides a DMV completion certificate. The family also receives a separate certificate for insurance records.

Lesson one: start with any level of experience
Begin in an open area, then move onto calm Fort Collins streets when basic control is steady.
Lesson two: add traffic when basics are ready

When ready, practice may include I-25 and roads west of Fort Collins.
Not every driver will cover every item in six hours. The instructor may stay with an earlier skill until the student is ready for more traffic or speed. Colorado requires the training time, not this entire outline. For every Colorado teen licensing before 16½, three 2-hour lessons fulfill the six-hour requirement, and we provide the DMV completion certificate plus a separate certificate for insurance.

Each instructor is fingerprinted before employment. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation checks those prints against the FBI's national database, and American Driving Academy repeats the screening every year for active instructors.
Before the student leaves, the instructor reviews what improved, which habits still need attention, and what to practice with a parent or another supervising driver. The notes go into the Lesson Progress Tracker after every appointment, giving families a clear record of progress instead of leaving them to guess what should come next.
When the three 2-hour lessons are complete, American Driving Academy records the six hours in the DMV system and gives the student a DMV completion certificate plus a separate certificate for insurance records.

Dash cameras run throughout each lesson. If a student or parent reports a concern, American Driving Academy can review any footage still available, discuss it with the instructor, and respond directly. Contact us within 7 days because recordings may be overwritten after that point. The review gives families a practical way to hold us accountable for the quality of behind-the-wheel instruction.
