Aurora behind-the-wheel driving lessons pair each student with a patient, state-certified instructor. Teen driving lessons and adult driving lessons are two hours and cost $160. Family-owned since 1999, we teach safe habits and good judgment that matter long after the drive test. We vet every instructor, provide ongoing training, and follow safety practices that go beyond state standards. Each private driving lesson follows a clear plan, every car has a dash camera to back our Lesson Review Promise, and the Lesson Progress Tracker shows families what to practice next.

Most Colorado teens planning to earn a license before 16½ need six professional hours through an approved driving school during the permit year. Aurora students complete them in three private 2-hour lessons with a state-certified instructor. After lesson three, American Driving Academy records the training in the DMV system and provides the DMV completion certificate plus a separate certificate for insurance records.
Adults book lessons for different reasons. Some are learning for the first time, some moved to Colorado, and others want focused practice before the drive test. The instructor uses the two-hour appointment for the skills that matter most.

Lesson one: build control before complex traffic
Start in an open area, then move to neighborhood streets once braking, steering, and speed are consistent.
Lesson two: add parking, lanes, and larger roads
Add parking practice, multi-lane roads, and I-225 merging when the earlier skills are reliable.
Lesson three: add dense traffic or changing grades
Later work may use downtown Denver traffic or hilly roads toward Parker, depending on the office and the driver's needs.
Six hours do not mean every driver completes every item. The instructor may stay with an earlier skill before adding higher speeds, dense traffic, or steeper grades. Colorado requires the training time, not this full outline. For every Colorado teen licensing before 16½, three 2-hour lessons meet the requirement, and American Driving Academy provides the DMV and insurance certificates.
Schedule a LessonEvery student drives a vehicle approved for professional instruction and maintained on a routine schedule. The passenger-side brake and extra mirror let the instructor respond when necessary while the student practices.
State certification is the beginning, not the end. Ongoing training covers effective teaching, lesson safety, and assessing a student's readiness before advancing to more demanding roads.

Every instructor is fingerprinted before teaching students. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation checks those prints against the FBI's national database, and American Driving Academy repeats the screening every year for active instructors.
After the lesson, the instructor explains what improved, which skills need more work, and what the student should practice with a parent or supervising driver. Those notes go into the Lesson Progress Tracker, giving families a written record and a clear purpose for the next home drive.
After three 2-hour lessons, American Driving Academy records the six hours in the DMV system and provides a DMV completion certificate. The family also receives a separate certificate for insurance records.
The insurance certificate does not guarantee a discount. The carrier decides eligibility, paperwork, and any change to the policy.
Dash cameras run throughout every lesson. If a student or parent reports a concern, American Driving Academy can review footage still available, speak with the instructor, and respond directly. Contact us within 7 days because recordings may be overwritten. This gives families a way to hold us accountable for the quality of behind-the-wheel training.

If you are new to Colorado or you don’t have driving experience, we offer driving lessons 7 days a week. These are 2-hour lessons with state-certified, patient, and friendly instructors.
You are required to pass the driver's license test in order to get your driver's license. After passing, you may be eligible to get your license that same day without even having to visit the DMV.
