Colorado driver's license offices, the ones most people call the DMV, run by appointment only. The Aurora office is next door to our East 4th Avenue office at 14321 E 4th Ave, and for an adult starting without a permit that turns two trips into one.
Book the permit appointment at the state office, then put your drive test with us straight after it. Drivers under 18 have to hold a permit for a full year first, and adults do not. Collect the permit, pass the test next door, and complete the license upgrade online before the day is out.

We do accept walk-in driving tests whenever an examiner is free. Nothing is held for you though, so a walk-in can mean a wait or a second trip.

American Driving Academy is a third-party testing site, so you take the same Colorado road test here that you would take anywhere else, without going through a DMV office to do it. Every test is given by an examiner certified by the state of Colorado. They test drivers all day, which means the instructions you hear are the same ones every other driver hears, given the same way.
Our team includes educators, military and law enforcement veterans, professional drivers, and licensing specialists. A calm examiner does not make the Colorado driving exam easier, but it does stop nerves from costing you points you would not otherwise lose.
The Aurora office runs driving tests seven days a week, so you do not have to take a day off school or work to get tested. Weekend and evening appointments open up regularly.

American Driving Academy offers bilingual testers and Spanish-speaking phone support. The scheduling calendar shows which testers are bilingual, so you can pick one when you book. You can also book an Examen de Manejo, which puts all of your text and email reminders in Spanish.
The test itself is unchanged. The route, the scoring and the standards are the same for every driver.
At the end of the appointment the examiner walks you through what they saw: the habits that were solid, and the specific moments that cost points. You get that whether you passed or not.
If the result was not what you wanted, that feedback is the fastest way to know exactly what to practice before the $65 retest.
Driving tests are normally taken in one of our vehicles, which are maintained on a routine schedule. Using our car means there is no vehicle paperwork to gather and nothing about your own car that can hold the appointment up. It also means extra safety, as they have all been state-inspected and have a passenger-side brake, instructor mirror, and dash camera.
The one exception is an interlock restriction on your permit. In that case you must bring your own vehicle, and it has to meet all five conditions listed in the Colorado Driving Test Requirements above.
A practice driving test runs the same kind of route as the real thing, with an instructor scoring as you go and a full breakdown at the end. Nothing is reported to the DMV.
If you would rather build the skills first, a private Aurora driving lesson gives you two hours with a state-certified instructor. Neither one guarantees a passing result, but both tell you where you actually stand before test day.
Make sure the car has fully stopped before you go. The easy check is to watch the ground outside your window and see that it has stopped moving.
Watch for posted speed limits, especially in school zones. On residential streets in Aurora, the speed limit is 25 mph unless a sign indicates otherwise.
Park your hands at 9 and 3, or at 10 and 2, and come back there when a turn is done. Take the turn hand over hand or push-pull, never palming the wheel.
Signal, then the rearview, then the door mirror, then a glance over your shoulder. The mirrors cannot show you the lane directly beside your car.

Wheel B is the one that passes. A rolling stop is one of the easiest points to lose, because the examiner is watching the wheel, not the speedometer.
The check from the driver's seat: look at the ground outside your window and make sure it has stopped moving.
Not quite. That wheel is still turning.
Wheel B is the answer. Your wheels have to be fully stopped behind the line, not creeping. Rolling through a stop sign is one of the most common reasons a driver loses points.

A right turn always finishes in the closest lane, the one beside the kerb. Swinging wide into the far lane is a marked error even when the road is completely empty.
If Freddy needs the far lane, he gets there afterwards as a separate lane change, with a signal and a blind spot check.

Freddy should finish in Lane B, the one closest to him beside the kerb. Turning wide across into the far lane is marked against you even on an empty road, and it is a habit examiners look for.

Rear-view mirror, driver side mirror, then a look over your left shoulder. The mirrors tell you what is behind you. Only the shoulder check covers the blind spot the mirrors miss.
Signal before you move, and leave the signal on the whole way through the change.
That one is for a right lane change.
You are moving left, so your blind spot is on the driver's side. Keep looking, there are still checks to find.

Correct. You stopped short of the sidewalk.
That is the stop that counts. Your first stop happens before any part of your car reaches the sidewalk, every time, even when a bush means you cannot see a thing from back there.
Then you creep forward into the green area and stop again for a proper look. A second and even a third stop is fine. Rolling straight through on the first one is not.
Too late. You were already on the sidewalk.
Your bumper crossed the sidewalk before the car stopped, so that first stop does not count. People walk there, and an examiner marks it the moment it happens.
Stop with the bumper short of the sidewalk first. Once you have stopped there, move up into the green area and stop again to see past the bush.
Much too late. You rolled all the way in.
You stopped in the green area. That is where your second look happens, not your first, and anything already coming along the cross street had no warning you were there.
The order is what matters: stop before the sidewalk, then creep forward, then stop again where you can actually see.
