Your Centennial driving test happens at our Smoky Hill office. Book ahead to lock in your spot, or walk in whenever an examiner is free. Your result goes into the DMV system before you leave, so most drivers can upgrade to a driver's license online that same day. The drive itself runs about 15 to 20 minutes on a state-approved route, scored by a state-certified examiner.

If you are looking for a Centennial driver's license office because you need the Colorado road test, the Smoky Hill location is the right place. American Driving Academy is a state-authorized third-party testing site rather than a government office, and you book the driving test directly on our calendar. State driver license offices still handle the issuance of the license, whether it be in-person or online.
Colorado authorizes American Driving Academy to give third-party driving tests at the Centennial office. The drive follows a state-approved route and is marked against Colorado's required scoring standards and criteria.
That means which examiner you get does not change what the Colorado driving exam measures. There is no lenient one to hope for and no strict one to avoid, so the result comes down to how you drive on the day.
Evening and weekend driving test appointments are available in Centennial, although the open days and times vary. Use the online calendar to see the current options.
They exist for drivers who cannot take a school day or a shift off. If that is you, look at the evening and weekend times first rather than trying to squeeze a test into a weekday.
The booking calendar marks which examiners speak Spanish, so you pick one yourself as you choose your Centennial appointment.
You can also call (303) 623-1404 and ask for a Spanish-speaking team member if you would rather sort out a question or a booking by phone. The route and the scoring standards stay the same either way.
Once the drive is over, your examiner talks you through the result and names the skills that met the standard and the ones worth more practice.
If you need another attempt, a Centennial retest is $65. Use what the examiner told you to decide what to work on before you book it.
We supply the vehicle for most Centennial driving tests, so bringing your own car is usually unnecessary. Each one is state-inspected and fitted with a passenger-side brake, an instructor mirror and a dash camera.
The one exception is an interlock restriction. In that case you bring your own vehicle, and it has to meet all five of the conditions listed under Interlock Restrictions above.
A practice driving test walks you through the testing process before test day. It is an evaluation rather than a lesson, and nothing from it is reported to the DMV.
You get straight feedback on what already looks ready and what needs more work, though it cannot promise how the real test will go. If you would rather build those skills first, a private Centennial driving lesson gives you two hours with a state-certified instructor.
Stop completely before the line, the crosswalk or the sidewalk, whichever comes first. Wait until the car has settled before creeping on.
Centennial residential streets are 25 mph where nothing is posted. School zones drop lower when they are active, so slow before the sign.
Between turns your hands sit at 9 and 3, or at 10 and 2. Steer through the turn hand over hand or push-pull, then settle back to that grip.
Signal before anything else, then the rearview, then your side mirror, then a shoulder check. Only that last look clears your blind spot.
Test Your Readiness

Wheel B is the one that passes. A rolling stop is one of the easiest points to lose, because the examiner is watching the wheel, not the speedometer.
The check from the driver's seat: look at the ground outside your window and make sure it has stopped moving.
Not quite. That wheel is still turning.
Wheel B is the answer. Your wheels have to be fully stopped behind the line, not creeping. Rolling through a stop sign is one of the most common reasons a driver loses points.

A right turn always finishes in the closest lane, the one beside the kerb. Swinging wide into the far lane is a marked error even when the road is completely empty.
If Freddy needs the far lane, he gets there afterwards as a separate lane change, with a signal and a blind spot check.

Freddy should finish in Lane B, the one closest to him beside the kerb. Turning wide across into the far lane is marked against you even on an empty road, and it is a habit examiners look for.

That is the full check.
Rear-view mirror, driver side mirror, then a look over your left shoulder. The mirrors tell you what is behind you. Only the shoulder check covers the blind spot the mirrors miss.
Signal before you move, and leave the signal on the whole way through the change.
That one is for a right lane change.
You are moving left, so your blind spot is on the driver's side. Keep looking, there are still checks to find.
Start the car, then hit the Space Bar to stop it.
The car has not started yet.
Correct. You stopped short of the sidewalk.
That is the stop that counts. Your first stop happens before any part of your car reaches the sidewalk, every time, even when a bush means you cannot see a thing from back there.
Then you creep forward into the green area and stop again for a proper look. A second and even a third stop is fine. Rolling straight through on the first one is not.
Too late. You were already on the sidewalk.
Your bumper crossed the sidewalk before the car stopped, so that first stop does not count. People walk there, and an examiner marks it the moment it happens.
Stop with the bumper short of the sidewalk first. Once you have stopped there, move up into the green area and stop again to see past the bush.
Much too late. You rolled all the way in.
You stopped in the green area. That is where your second look happens, not your first, and anything already coming along the cross street had no warning you were there.
The order is what matters: stop before the sidewalk, then creep forward, then stop again where you can actually see.
