Colorado Springs driving tests are given seven days a week. The online calendar shows every open time, including same-day appointments when available. Walk-ins are welcome when an examiner is free, but booking is the only way to guarantee your time. Your state-certified examiner follows a state-approved route. After passing, most drivers can upgrade their permit to a driver's license online the same day.

Colorado driver's license offices, the ones most people call the DMV, run by appointment only. The Colorado Springs office is the building directly in front of our Central Union Boulevard office at 2441 N Union Blvd, and for an adult starting without a permit that turns two trips into one.
Schedule the permit appointment first, then book your drive test with us for immediately afterward. The one-year permit wait applies to drivers under 18, not to adults. That lets you leave with a permit, pass the test across the way, and finish the license online the same afternoon.

Availability can change, so a walk-in may mean waiting or returning later. Booking online is the only way to guarantee your time, and the calendar displays every open appointment at all three offices.
If a time is open today, book it before you drive over. A booked time is held for you. A walk-in is not.
Each examiner is state-certified and applies Colorado's required scoring criteria.

American Driving Academy is a state-authorized third-party testing site. Directions come clearly and in plenty of time, and your examiner will repeat one if you did not catch it.
You drive a route the state has approved, and the Colorado driving exam is measured against the required scoring standards and criteria.

After the drive test, your examiner explains the result and points out what you handled well and what needs more practice. You receive feedback whether you pass or not.

Most drivers take the test in an American Driving Academy vehicle, so they do not need to provide a car.
An interlock restriction requires you to bring your own vehicle. It must have the device installed, front and back plates, valid insurance and registration, no windshield cracks, and working doors and lights.
A practice driving test lets you experience streets similar to those used on the drive test. You receive constructive feedback during and after the evaluation.
A private Colorado Springs driving lesson may be a better fit when you need teaching rather than an evaluation. Neither service guarantees a passing result.
Stop completely before the stop line, crosswalk, or sidewalk. Before moving, check that the ground beside your window has stopped.
Read every posted limit and watch for school zones. Residential streets here are 25 mph unless signed otherwise, so slow before the limit drops.
Nine and three, or ten and two, is where your hands return after a turn. Through the turn use hand over hand or push-pull, whichever you were taught.
Before changing lanes, signal, check the rearview and side mirrors, then look over your shoulder. Move only after confirming the lane is clear.
Test Your Readiness

Wheel B is the one that passes. A rolling stop is one of the easiest points to lose, because the examiner is watching the wheel, not the speedometer.
The check from the driver's seat: look at the ground outside your window and make sure it has stopped moving.
Not quite. That wheel is still turning.
Wheel B is the answer. Your wheels have to be fully stopped behind the line, not creeping. Rolling through a stop sign is one of the most common reasons a driver loses points.

A right turn always finishes in the closest lane, the one beside the kerb. Swinging wide into the far lane is a marked error even when the road is completely empty.
If Freddy needs the far lane, he gets there afterwards as a separate lane change, with a signal and a blind spot check.
Not quite. Lane A is the far lane.
Freddy should finish in Lane B, the one closest to him beside the kerb. Turning wide across into the far lane is marked against you even on an empty road, and it is a habit examiners look for.

That is the full check.
Rear-view mirror, driver side mirror, then a look over your left shoulder. The mirrors tell you what is behind you. Only the shoulder check covers the blind spot the mirrors miss.
Signal before you move, and leave the signal on the whole way through the change.
That one is for a right lane change.
You are moving left, so your blind spot is on the driver's side. Keep looking, there are still checks to find.
Start the car, then hit the Space Bar to stop it.
The car has not started yet.
Correct. You stopped short of the sidewalk.
That is the stop that counts. Your first stop happens before any part of your car reaches the sidewalk, every time, even when a bush means you cannot see a thing from back there.
Then you creep forward into the green area and stop again for a proper look. A second and even a third stop is fine. Rolling straight through on the first one is not.
Too late. You were already on the sidewalk.
Your bumper crossed the sidewalk before the car stopped, so that first stop does not count. People walk there, and an examiner marks it the moment it happens.
Stop with the bumper short of the sidewalk first. Once you have stopped there, move up into the green area and stop again to see past the bush.
Much too late. You rolled all the way in.
You stopped in the green area. That is where your second look happens, not your first, and anything already coming along the cross street had no warning you were there.
The order is what matters: stop before the sidewalk, then creep forward, then stop again where you can actually see.
